Session Summary: Building the political will to end hunger requires elected officials to see impacted individuals as voters to whom they are accountable, not just problems to be solved. In 2024, anti-hunger advocates and food banks across the nation engaged in diverse strategies to increase the participation of the communities we serve at the ballot box. Practitioners from red, blue and purple states will describe what it was like to conduct nonpartisan voter engagement in a charged national political environment, and share the practical lessons they learned for future campaigns.
Learning Objectives:
How to educate and align leadership and staff at your organization around a nonpartisan voter engagement campaign, including addressing their legal, safety and reputational concerns.
How to identify and create effective partnerships with outside providers of nonpartisan voter registration and education services in the communities you serve.
How to coordinate and maximize the resources at your disposal for an effective voter engagement campaign, including measuring outcomes.
