Dwelling House Of Hope Inc, Massachusetts
Levenia Furusa is the Founder and Executive Director of Dwelling House of Hope, a nonprofit organization based in Lowell, Massachusetts, dedicated to addressing homelessness and food insecurity. A passionate advocate for change, she is driven by a deep-rooted desire to uplift and empower others.
Born and raised in Zimbabwe, Africa, Levenia’s commitment to service was shaped by her father’s dedication to caring for orphaned and homeless children. From an early age, Levenia eagerly assisted him, ensuring no one in need was left without support. Her life took a significant turn after the heartbreaking loss of her brothers, prompting her to move to the United States in 1995. There, Levenia witnessed firsthand the hidden face of poverty and food insecurity, even in one of the wealthiest nations. Balancing two jobs to support her family, she observed the struggles faced by single parents, low-income families, and new Americans, which deepened her resolve to make a lasting difference.
In 2010, Levenia founded Dwelling House of Hope, which began in the basement of her home as a food distribution service. It has since grown into a thriving community hub, providing critical support to individuals and families in need. Levenia’s leadership extends beyond her organization. As a Commissioner on the City of Lowell’s Hunger and Homeless Commission, she actively works to combat homelessness and food insecurity. She is also involved with the Non-Profit Alliance of Greater Lowell, the Greater Lowell Chamber of Commerce, and the Lowell Rotary Club.
As a co-founder of the African Cultural Association, Levenia plays a key role in hosting the Annual African Festival, which celebrates African culture and heritage while fostering cultural exchange. In addition, she teaches cooking classes to new Americans as a SERVSAFE-certified instructor and trains individuals in CPR, First Aid, and AED as a certified American Red Cross instructor. Levenia also serves as an Ambassador with Project Bread, working to end hunger in Massachusetts.
Beyond her professional work, Levenia is a dedicated foster parent and serves as a U.S. Federal Chaplain, providing spiritual support to those in need
