The Food Trust, Pennsylvania
Mignon has worked in non-profit and social services roles for nearly 15 years, with extensive experience in program design, operations and community engagement. After studying sociology in undergrad, the focus of Mignon’s work has been to connect people and organizations to resources; and, fundamentally, to help foster environments that are inclusive and collaborative, reducing unnecessary duplication in service provision.
Her introduction to food advocacy and access work was at The Food Bank of South Jersey, where she conducted food stamp outreach to families across a four county service area. Troubleshooting application and recertification issues led to working to understand the challenges that county workers face with limited resources to process the volume of applications they received. She collaborated with the NJ Anti-Hunger Coalition to support advocacyy for key changes in food stamp policy.
Mignon Verdell is the Community Engagement Manager at The Food Trust. With her wealth of experience working directly with Philadelphia communities, Mignon manages The Food Trust’s community engagement efforts across all programs, with an increasing focus on local policy advocacy for nutrition incentives and related subsidies.
