Eric J. Steiner, Senior Policy Advisor, OFW Law
Eric helps clients achieve their business and humanitarian goals in food and agriculture with the U.S. Congress and regulatory agencies including USDA, FDA, EPA, and USTR. His more than 20 years of experience in complex legislation and regulation spans nutrition assistance programs, food & beverage industry, animal health industry, production agriculture, and international trade & diplomacy.
Before OFW, Eric worked in-house government affairs for Kraft Foods, Elanco Animal Health, and the National Association of Wheat Growers. Previously, he served at the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, & Forestry handling nutrition assistance programs as professional staff for two Chairmen, Thad Cochran (R-MS) and Saxby Chambliss (R-GA), and later as senior professional staff for Ranking Member Pat Roberts (R-KS), and served as a senior executive political appointee at the USDA Food and Nutrition Service for President George W. Bush. Eric's first role was serving as a Bill Emerson National Hunger Fellow with the Congressional Hunger Center.
After growing up on a small farm near Berne, Indiana, Eric lives with his wife and two children in Alexandria, Virginia. He earned a B.S. in Agricultural Education from Purdue University, a J.D. from the George Mason University School of Law, and a Certificate of Management Excellence from the Harvard Business School. Eric serves on the Board of Directors of the Congressional Hunger Center and the Purdue University College of Agriculture Dean’s Advisory Council, and volunteers as the official photographer for the Men's and Women's Congressional Basketball Games. In his spare time, Eric freelances as a family portrait, headshot, and award-winning nature photographer.
