Briana Belcher is a passionate public health professional currently volunteering with the Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Mercer County, focusing on addressing food insecurity in LGBTQIA2S+ populations. She is deeply committed to improving access to essential resources and creating safe spaces for marginalized communities. Briana also works as the asthma coordinator for the Community Health and Wellness Unit at the New Jersey Department of Health, broadening her expertise in public health advocacy. Briana has built strong partnerships with diverse community organizations, such as universities, food pantries, housing authorities, and law firms. Her ability to collaborate with various stakeholders has made her a valuable asset in promoting health equity.
Briana earned her Master’s in Public Health with a concentration in epidemiology from Rutgers University, where she also served as a research coordinator at the Cancer Health Equity Center of Excellence at the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey (CINJ). At CINJ, Briana worked as a Bilingual Public Health Representative and Research Coordinator, conducting in-home interviews with Hispanic and Black breast cancer survivors. She managed study assessments, interventions, and daily program activities, ensuring participant recruitment, compliance with institutional review boards, and data quality assurance.
In her role as an outreach coordinator for the Hopewell Township Health Department and the Princeton Justice Initiative, Briana coordinated outreach efforts, developed bilingual health materials, and addressed health disparities within the local community. Her work helped bridge language gaps and raise awareness of key health issues. She also earned her Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) certification during this time, further strengthening her expertise in health education.
Through her work with the LGBTQIA2S+ community, Briana continues to advocate for safe, inclusive spaces and increase food access for underserved populations. Her dedication to reducing health disparities and fostering health equity drives her efforts to create positive change and improve access to resources for marginalized communities.
