Center for Ecoliteracy, California
Abby Halperin, MSc, Senior Policy and Evaluation Manager, leads the Center for Ecoliteracy’s policy and advocacy work. She uses the power of data to amplify the voices of school nutrition professionals, provide strategic insights to policymakers, and celebrate the collective impact of the organization’s California Food for California Kids® initiative. She led the Center for Ecoliteracy’s advocacy on California’s landmark School Meals for All policy, which established free breakfast and lunch for all of California’s 5.9 million TK–12 students.
Abby’s background is in research, environmental policy, and environmental education. Prior to her seven years at the Center for Ecoliteracy, Abby advocated for forest and climate policies at the Pacific Forest Trust. A passion for climate change and translating science, data, and research into real-world decisions led her to complete a Master of Science in Environmental Change and Management at the University of Oxford, where she researched effective climate change communication. Abby started her career as an environmental educator, designing programs and leading school field trips for the New York City Parks Department and South Platte Park in Littleton, Colorado. She holds a BA in biology and environmental studies from Oberlin College.
