Eastern Michigan University, Michigan
Hello! I am a single mother and full-time student at Eastern Michigan University. Snap, WIC, and TANF greatly effect my life as I depend on them to meet my survival needs and to continue to cultivate a beneficial future for my son. We live in rural Hillsdale where is a significant lack of support and without these services I can't say where our lives would be presently. Thankfully we are still able to receive them and therefore I can keep him in a Montessori school and I can focus on getting my degrees in both social work and women's and gender studies. I am also diligently working to open a transitional living center for women in recovery, as I mentioned Hillsdale County lacks support services this lacking stretches far beyond food insecurities. I am proudly on the Dean's list, Co-Chair of the MSW/BSW Student Board, a mentor for MDOC's A Walk A Mile reentry program, MDHHS Community Influencer, and on several County committees. I'm determined to be the voice of the unheard and to make a difference in the lives of those in my community.
