Community Member, Michigan
Najma is a devoted wife and homeschooling mother of six, deeply committed to advocating for families. Her passion for community service began in high school and continues to be a core value, instilled in her children through regular volunteer work at their local food pantry—a place where they both give and receive support.
Beyond her family, Najma actively engages in initiatives that improve lives. She contributes to the Michigan Region 9 Perinatal Quality Collaborative, working to enhance health outcomes for birthing families and infants. Her dedication extends to serving on the board of a local non-profit focused on poverty alleviation, and as a Parent Representative on the Advisory Board for Parent Leadership in State Government. She also played a key role in developing the Racial Justice Impact Assessment Tool for the Washtenaw County Health Department, where she serves on the Community Voices and Health Equity Council.
As the founder of Hands and Heart Doula Care, Najma leverages her personal experience as a mother of six to empower women throughout their birthing journey. She provides compassionate doula support, from prenatal appointments to birth, and is trained as a Survivors Mom Companion tutor, supporting mothers in their healing. Currently, she is piloting the "Doulas as Travel Companions" program with the Region 9 Perinatal Quality Collaborative, aiming to provide enhanced support to mothers.
