Dr. Megan Knapp, PhD, MPH, is an Assistant Professor of Public Health Sciences at Xavier University of Louisiana in New Orleans. She conducts research related to factors that impact food environments, food security, and food access and choice. She received her PhD in Global Community Health and Behavioral Sciences from Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine and her MPH in Behavioral Sciences and Health Education from Emory University. Her undergraduate degree was from Southwestern University where she double majored in Biology and Communication Studies.
Supporting healthy eating patterns through improving access and availability healthy foods is one key strategy for addressing health disparities and reducing negative health outcomes such as cancer, obesity, and cardiovascular disease. She has utilized both primary and secondary quantitative and qualitative data in her research. Working with community-based programs and organizations, she has developed methods and tools for evaluating programs and policies to improve nutrition environments.
